Scouts South Africa
SCOUTS SA’s Code of Conduct and Child Protection policy prescribe the safety measures for all members. The Safe from Harm (SfH) training content shared by WOSM has been included in SCOUTS SA’s new Adult Leader courses. The SfH course is a set of actions designed to ensure that everyone in Scouting commits to protecting children/youth. SCOUTS SA’s 6,200 Adult volunteers hail from disadvantaged/rural communities as well as from affluent urban areas. Many were trained before the introduction the SCOUTS SA SfH curriculum that combines its Child Protection policy, SA legislation and the WOSM training. In a country where violence and crime are daily realities, and where Scouting offers children a safe place to learn and receive positive mentorship, we consider the new SfH content vital/compulsory knowledge for all Adult Leaders, parent helpers and where possible Rovers. We seek to convert the updated Safe from Harm materials from in-person training to a distance learning format.
